A lorry driver died from excessive bleeding after being violently attacked by miscreants on the highway. Police recovered his blood-stained body on Tuesday morning from a lorry parked at Zorarganj in Mirsarai, Chittagong.
The deceased has been identified as Jamal Uddin, 56, from Char Fashion upazila in Bhola.
According to the driver’s assistant, Belal Hossain, the lorry was en route to Chittagong Port from Sylhet. The attack occurred near the Ujanisa Bridge in Brahmanbaria when the vehicle slowed down to navigate a narrow road. A group of four to five armed miscreants intercepted them, smashed the windshield, and severely hacked Jamal with sharp local weapons.
Despite critical injuries, Jamal instructed his assistant not to halt the vehicle. Belal took the wheel and drove toward Feni in a state of panic. Tragically, Jamal succumbed to severe blood loss on the way. With the assistance of other highway drivers, the lorry eventually reached Mirsarai.
Zorarganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abdul Halim confirmed that police recovered the body around 7:30 am outside the Fardin Model Pump and sent it to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue. The OC noted multiple sharp weapon wounds on the victim. Because the attack occurred in Brahmanbaria, the relevant local police station there will handle the formal case and further legal proceedings.
