Ten workers suffered burn injuries, with at least five in critical condition, following a fire at the Confidence Salt Factory in Chattogram on Thursday morning. The blaze, which initial reports suggest was sparked by an electrical short circuit, broke out in the West Gomdandi area of Boalkhali upazila.
According to Sub-Inspector Nurul Alam Asek, who is in charge of the Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police outpost, the injured workers were rushed to the facility for immediate medical attention.
"Ten people with burn injuries were brought to the hospital around 11:00 am," Sub-Inspector Asek confirmed, adding that "the condition of five to six of them is critical".
Authorities are currently relying on statements from the injured workers, who indicated that a short circuit was the primary cause of the accident. Local officials continue to monitor the situation as the critically injured receive emergency care.
