In a major initiative to alleviate Dhaka’s chronic traffic congestion, authorities have begun restructuring the city's primary transport hubs.
Starting today, Thursday, all inter-district buses—including BRTC fleets—are officially banned from entering the Fulbaria Bus Terminal. According to the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association, these inter-district services will temporarily operate from the Sayedabad Terminal to keep heavy regional traffic out of the city center.
Simultaneously, operations at the Mohakhali Bus Terminal are gradually shifting to a newly constructed temporary depot in Purbachal. The transfer program officially launched on Wednesday afternoon with the relocation of the first 20 buses.
MP Md. Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas inaugurated the Mohakhali initiative. During the event, DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, alongside traffic department officials and transport union leaders, emphasized that decentralizing these terminals is vital for urban mobility. By moving major depots to the city's outskirts, authorities aim to streamline road management, reduce gridlock, and ultimately improve the daily commute for city residents.
