Hundreds of HSC examinees blocked major intersections in Dhaka on Tuesday, July 14, causing severe traffic disruptions to press home a three-point demand. Protesters gathered at the Science Lab intersection and in front of the BNS Centre in Uttara at around 11:30 am, halting traffic on key routes, including the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.
The primary demand is the resignation of Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon within 24 hours. Protesters accused the minister of treating students as "opponents" and failing to accommodate them during recent severe weather.
The remaining two demands focus on the ongoing board exams: suspending all HSC exams until adverse weather conditions improve, and arranging re-examinations for candidates who missed Monday's physics and accounting tests due to the harsh weather.
Students from multiple institutions, including Dhaka College, City College, and Noor Mohammad Public College, joined the demonstration. Beyond the weather-related grievances, protesting students alleged that exams are being held on incomplete syllabuses, causing widespread mental distress, and that question papers from 2025 were reused at several centers.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police officials confirmed the complete suspension of traffic from Shahbagh to Science Lab and on the Uttara stretch of the Dhaka-Mymensingh road. Police are currently on the scene attempting to negotiate with the students to clear the streets and bring the situation under control.
