An administrative officer (AO) at the Tangail Deputy Commissioner's (DC) office has been accused of land grabbing intimidation, and issuing death threats against a relative over a family property dispute.
Kaniz Fatema, a resident of Motra village in Basail upazila, brought forward the allegations against AO Nazrul Islam during a press conference at the Tangail Print Media Association on Wednesday (July 15).
In a written statement, Kaniz explained that her father, Rahij Uddin, and his two brothers had jointly purchased 318 decimals of land in Motra Mouza. However, Nazrul Islam—who is married to Kaniz’s cousin—has allegedly used his official influence to forcibly occupy 85 decimals of her father’s legal share.
Kaniz, an only child, stated that Nazrul and his wife, Magra Union Parishad Secretary Shamsunnahar, have repeatedly derailed family arbitration efforts. She further alleged that the couple threatened to frame her and her father in false legal cases, and even issued public death threats if they continued to demand their rightful property.
Kaniz, accompanied by her parents at the press briefing, sought immediate administrative intervention to recover the land and ensure their safety.
When contacted for a response, AO Nazrul Islam categorically denied the allegations. He acknowledged attending a past family arbitration where a settlement was initially reached, but claimed it fell apart due to interference from Kaniz’s husband. Nazrul stated he has since distanced himself from the dispute and is being unfairly targeted to malign his reputation.
