The Dubai Taxi Company (DTC) will recruit 6,000 skilled drivers from Bangladesh this year. The initial screening and recruitment interviews will begin tomorrow, Monday, at the Bangladesh-Korea Technical Training Center in Dhaka.
The announcement followed a meeting on Sunday between a DTC delegation and Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury at the ministry.
Welcoming the initiative, the minister assured the delegation of full ministry support. He urged DTC to provide allowances to the selected drivers during their initial training period in Dubai. Furthermore, he requested the company to expand its recruitment to include Bangladeshi professionals such as doctors and nurses.
According to DTC representatives, the company employs approximately 15,000 drivers from 27 countries, of whom about 8,000 are Bangladeshi citizens. They praised Bangladeshi workers for their skill and diligence, noting that they receive priority during hiring.
The upcoming interview drive aims to screen and select the first batch of 1,500 drivers.
During the meeting, State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Md. Nurul Haque highlighted the financial burdens faced by migrating workers. Pointing out that many poor drivers rely on high-interest loans to migrate, he urged DTC and recruiting partners to cap migration costs at 100,000 BDT (1 Lakh Taka).
Representatives from Al Anas Overseas, the authorized recruiting agency handling the process, added that they also intend to source Bangladeshi cleaners, technicians, and mechanics in the future.
The meeting was also attended by the ministry's Secretary, Md. Mokhtar Ahmed, along with senior ministry officials and Dubai Taxi Company executives.
