The Bangladeshi short film Nuri has been selected for the "Cinema de Demain" section of the Short Film Corner at the 79th Cannes Film Festival. The film has also been officially included in the festival’s prestigious market catalog.
Writer-director Mithun Zaman and producer Hasib Zuberi Shihan are currently attending the festival in Cannes, France, to represent the project.
According to Shihan, the Short Film Corner's Rendezvous-Industry acts as a vital professional hub. It allows independent short-form filmmakers to directly connect with international distributors, sales agents, and festival representatives.
Set against the backdrop of Cox's Bazar beach, the 16-minute Bengali-language film follows an 11-year-old girl—played by a local youth from Cox's Bazar—who discovers renewed courage and hope through an unexpected bond with a newborn foal.
"The film explores the inner world of a young girl, highlighting how global realities reshape personal lives and emotions," director Mithun Zaman noted. "In an era marked by instability and isolation, Nuri serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring power of human connection."
The project is produced by Hasib Zuberi Shihan and Bashar Georgis, with Himesh Kar serving as co-producer. The technical crew includes Mohammad Arifuzzaman (cinematography), Shaib Talukder and Jawad Parvez (sound design), Amjad Hossain (music), Sameer Ahmed and Shihan Zuberi (editing), and Moonshine Post Production (color grading).
