Uber plans to invest $200 million over the next five years to establish a new software and technology development centre in Istanbul, according to a statement released by Turkey's Industry and Technology Ministry on Friday.

This new facility will be a major step for the ride-sharing giant, as it will be only Uber's fourth such technology centre located outside of the United States.

The other three international centres are currently operating in Brazil, India, and the Netherlands.
