Measles Like Symptoms Claim 8 More Children in Bangladesh in 24 Hours

Eight children have died in Bangladesh after developing measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours, while 798 new cases of measles or related symptoms were reported, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest update, released Saturday, said 70 children were confirmed to have measles, while another 728 were reported with measles-like symptoms. No deaths from confirmed measles were reported during the same period.

Since March 15, a total of 803 children have died after developing measles-like symptoms, while another 99 deaths have been linked to confirmed measles. That brings the combined death toll from confirmed measles and suspected cases to 902.

During the past 24 hours, 700 children were hospitalized, while 549 patients were discharged.

According to DGHS data, Bangladesh has recorded 141,776 suspected measles cases and 17,800 confirmed cases since March 15. A total of 123,494 patients have been hospitalized, with 119,089 subsequently discharged.

The figures indicate that measles and measles-like illnesses continue to put significant pressure on hospitals and health services across the country.
