


A devastating fire has destroyed 20 businesses at Alexander Bazar in Ramgati, Lakshmipur. Traders report losses amounting to approximately 1 crore taka. The blaze erupted early on Friday morning. The fire service suspects that it was ignited by an electrical short circuit.
According to the fire service, police, and local witnesses, the fire originated from an electrical short circuit in the liquor shop owned by market trader Russell Hossain during the early hours of Friday. In a matter of moments, the flames spread to adjacent shops. Upon receiving the alert, two fire service units promptly arrived at the scene and, with assistance from police and local residents, managed to control the fire after about two hours of effort. At least 20 businesses, including liquor, garment, mobile, crockery, and cosmetic shops, were consumed by the flames. The affected shop owners reported losses in the crores of taka.
The traders expressed that they are operating on loans. Currently, they find themselves in dire straits. They are anxious about how they will support their families or repay their debts. The affected traders have called for government support.
Md. Kabir Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Ramgati Police Station, confirmed the incident, stating that 20 shops have been destroyed in the catastrophic fire. The initial damage assessment indicates losses exceeding crores of taka.
Khokon Majudar, Officer of Ramgati Fire Service Station, mentioned that the fire is initially believed to have been caused by an electrical short circuit. Two units successfully managed to control the fire after two hours of effort. However, damage assessment is currently ongoing.
Meanwhile, Md. Syed Amjad Hossain, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Ramgati, stated that several businesses have been lost in the devastating fire. A list of the affected traders is being compiled, after which rehabilitation measures will be implemented.
