A free eye examination and cataract surgery camp provided much-needed medical care to approximately 2,000 low-income residents in Paikgachha on Thursday.
Organized at the Paikgachha Government High School, the medical camp was a joint humanitarian effort supported by the Rotary Club of Midtown, Khulna's BNSB Eye Hospital, and the Fred Hollows Foundation.
"This service is organized for the helpless, low-income people of Paikgachha who are deprived of modern medical services and cannot afford treatment," said SM Monirul Hasan Bappi, Khulna District Council Administrator. "The Rotary Club and the participating doctors are using their talents for the welfare of humanity."
During the day-long event, expert doctors examined patients and selected more than 200 individuals for free cataract surgeries. The remaining patients received free medical consultations, essential medicines, and eyeglasses.
Monirul Hasan Bappi, who also serves as the Acting Member Secretary of Khulna District BNP and Chairman of the District Red Crescent Society, added, "Our party has always worked for the welfare of the people. I organized this camp to stand by the residents of these remote areas who lack modern medical facilities."
The event was chaired by Rotarian Sohag Mina, President of the Rotary Club of Midtown. It was attended by numerous local dignitaries and political figures, including Paikgachha Upazila BNP Convener Dr. Abdul Majid, Khulna District BNP Joint Convener SM Shamim Kabir, and former District BNP Joint Convener Ashraful Alam Nannu, among other local leaders and youth representatives.
