Prime Minister Tarique Rahman virtually inaugurated the year-long "Nazrul Year 2026-2027" programme today, organized by the Cabinet Division at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
During the launch, the Prime Minister paid tribute to National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, describing his writing as a "sharp weapon" against colonial rule, oppression, inequality, and all forms of injustice. He emphasized that Nazrul emerged as a guiding beacon for a subjugated nation, providing profound inspiration to cultivate love for the motherland.
Highlighting the poet's vast cultural contributions, the Prime Minister noted that Nazrul perfectly captured the spectrum of human emotion and experience—ranging from revolutionary and patriotic anthems to Islamic values, devotional songs, nature, and the joys of youth.
"His creativity embraces people of all ages and all generations," the premier stated, adding that the poet's work continues to inspire citizens to stand up against oppression. He reaffirmed that Nazrul’s relevance to Bangladesh's history, dreams, and struggles will never diminish.
