A mobile court in Nageshwari, Kurigram has sentenced a young man to one month in jail for molesting a schoolgirl on her way to school.
The convicted, Mahabur Rahman 24, son of Ishaq Ali from Godharer Par area under Nageshwari Municipality, harassed the student near Aziz Supermarket in Kazi Market around 9:15 am on Monday as she walked from home to school.
According to DM Academy High School Principal KM Anisur Rahman, locals caught Mahabur at the scene and restrained him and alerted police. Police then took him into custody and brought him to the school premises.
A mobile court was held around 11:30 am the same day at Nageshwari DM Academy led by Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Badruzzaman Rishad. After the allegations were confirmed, the court sentenced Mahabur to one month's imprisonment.
Rishad said the punishment was handed down after the molestation charge against the accused was proven.
