Bollywood actress Shraddha Kapoor’s anticipated return to the screen in the upcoming biopic Eetha has ignited intense industry discussion over her compensation and the film's chosen title.
Kapoor is reportedly charging a staggering ₹15 crore for her portrayal of legendary Tamasha artist Vithabai Narayangaonkar. This marks a significant pay bump from her recent roles; she previously earned ₹5 crore for Stree 2 and ₹7 crore for Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. Producer Dinesh Vijan, collaborating with Kapoor for the third time, defended the hefty remuneration, stating this biopic will add a new dimension to her career.
However, the film is also facing pushback regarding its name. The cultural wing of a Maharashtra political party has demanded the movie be retitled Vhitha or Vithabai to properly honor the late artist's legacy. Vithabai’s family members have echoed this sentiment.
Addressing the backlash, co-star Anant V Joshi clarified that the title Eetha was initially selected to prevent potential legal hurdles. Yet, he acknowledged that securing the family's consent to use Narayangaonkar's real name would greatly enhance the film's credibility and public acceptance.
Scheduled to hit theaters on August 28, Eetha also features powerful performances by prominent actors Randeep Hooda and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub
