


Professor Dr. Md. Mamun bin Ibne Riaz has taken charge as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Islamic University of Technology (IUT), an affiliate of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). He assumed office on June 14, following his appointment by the OIC Secretary General on the recommendation of the Bangladesh government.
Bringing over 25 years of experience in teaching, research, and university administration, Professor Riaz was previously a professor of Electronic Engineering at Universiti Malaysia Perlis. He holds a PhD in Science and Engineering from Ibaraki University in Japan, specializing in VLSI Design. He has also held academic and administrative roles at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Independent University, Bangladesh.
A globally recognized scholar, Professor Riaz has published over 400 research papers on electronic engineering, smart systems, biomedical sensors, and artificial intelligence. His work has garnered over 20,000 citations. He has led 75 competitive research projects valued at roughly $4 million and has been consistently ranked among the world’s top 2% of scientists by Stanford University since 2020.
As Vice-Chancellor, Professor Riaz aims to transform IUT into the "Green Digital University of the OIC" by 2035. His priorities include modernizing the curriculum, fostering a student-centered campus, and implementing green-digital governance.
Under his leadership, the university plans to launch three dedicated research clusters: AI & Digital Health, Smart & Sustainable Systems, and Advanced Microelectronics & Embedded Intelligence. He also emphasized strengthening industry partnerships and introducing data-driven, KPI-based administrative evaluations.
Originally from Pabna, Professor Riaz has received numerous national and international awards for his contributions to higher education and scientific research.
