At least 11 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) candidates in Bogura failed to sit for the first day of the nationwide examinations on Thursday in two separate incidents involving alleged fraud and administrative irregularities.
Ten Humanities students from Mahisawar Degree College in Shibganj alleged that a part-time computer operator collected Tk 4,000-5,000 from each of them, promising to complete their delayed examination registration. However, their registration forms were never submitted to the education board, leaving them without admit cards. The accused has reportedly gone into hiding, while the students staged a protest in front of the college, demanding justice.
In a separate incident in Sariakandi, a female HSC candidate was unable to take the examination despite reportedly completing the required payment, allegedly due to administrative complications.
The twin incidents have raised serious concerns over accountability, institutional oversight and candidate protection in Bangladesh's public examination system. Authorities have said investigations are underway, while the affected students are demanding legal action against those responsible and a remedy for the loss of their academic year.
