Customs officials seized 160 gold bars weighing roughly 19 kg from a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
The joint operation—conducting by customs authorities, the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation, and an intelligence agency—targeted the cargo hold of flight BG-148, which arrived from Dubai around 10:30 am on Thursday (July 2).
Additional Commissioner of Customs Muhammad Kamrul Hasan confirmed the recovery. While initial reports estimated the market value of the seized gold at Tk 450 crore, standard market rates suggest a much lower valuation for 19 kg of gold.
Authorities have not yet confirmed any arrests. An investigation is currently underway to trace the gold's origin, determine how it bypassed security into the cargo hold, and identify the smuggling network responsible.
