In a second operation early Thursday, officials intercepted Al Amin Molla, a passenger booked on a US-Bangla Airlines flight to Bangkok. Molla, a resident of Munshiganj’s Tongibari upazila, was detained in the holding lounge after clearing initial checks.
A scan of his hand luggage revealed 485,000 Saudi Riyals and 2,110 Thai Baht. The total value of the seized currency is estimated at over Tk 1.15 crore.
The suspect is currently in custody, and legal proceedings are underway. CIID officials stated that heightened surveillance will continue to combat the smuggling of gold and illegal currency.
