The Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) has launched an advanced cybersecurity system to strengthen the digital security of the country's largest seaport amid growing global cyber threats.
The new system is designed to protect the port's digital infrastructure, including its network, online transactions, operational data, and logistics management, from increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks.
The system was officially inaugurated by Chattogram Port Chairman Rear Admiral S.M. Moniruzzaman at a ceremony held in the port authority's conference room.
Speaking at the event, CPA Secretary Md. Nasir Uddin said that nearly all critical port operations now rely on digital platforms, making robust cybersecurity essential for ensuring uninterrupted services. He noted that the newly introduced system has been developed to meet international standards and to defend against threats such as ransomware, malware, and distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks.
According to the port authority, the cybersecurity platform is equipped with advanced capabilities to detect potential cyber threats before they cause damage, safeguard sensitive information, prevent malware infections, and continuously monitor suspicious network activity. It also includes a 24/7 Security Operations Center (SOC) capable of responding immediately to cyber incidents.
In addition, the system will preserve digital evidence from any attempted or successful cyberattack, supporting future investigations and improving incident response capabilities.
CPA officials said work on the project began on January 11 under an agreement with Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited, an organization operated by the Bangladesh Navy.
The port authority believes the new technology will strengthen the security of the port's digital infrastructure in line with international maritime and port security standards. It is also expected to ensure uninterrupted port operations while enhancing Bangladesh's credibility and competitiveness in the global shipping industry.
Board members of the Chattogram Port Authority, department heads, project directors, and technical experts involved in implementing the project attended the inauguration ceremony.
