Authorities in Porsha Upazila of Naogaon district have pledged tougher action against drug trafficking, cross-border smuggling, child marriage, and other law and order issues during the monthly Upazila Law and Order Committee meeting.
The meeting, organized by the Upazila Administration, was held Tuesday at the Upazila Parishad auditorium and chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rakibul Islam.
Committee members reviewed the area's overall law and order situation and discussed measures to strengthen drug control, prevent cross-border smuggling, stop child marriage and eve-teasing, and improve market monitoring.
Speaking at the meeting, UNO Rakibul Islam said maintaining peace and public safety requires close cooperation between the administration and local residents. He stressed that authorities would adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward crime and drug-related offenses and urged police to intensify enforcement efforts.
Because Porsha is a border upazila, he also called on the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and police to strengthen surveillance to prevent drug trafficking, smuggling, and illegal cross-border push-ins.
Among those attending the meeting were Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nabila Ferdous, Officer-in-Charge Ziaur Rahman of Porsha Police Station, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Kamal Uddin, Agriculture Officer Mamunur Rashid, Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Abdul Aziz, officials from various government departments, union parishad chairmen, panel chairmen, and freedom fighters.
