Police have arrested a 24-year-old woman in connection with the alleged murder of her husband in Jhalokathi, several months after the victim's death was initially reported as an accident.
The suspect, Mim Begum, was arrested in Natore during an operation led by Sub-Inspector Shahidul Islam of Jhalokathi Sadar Police Station, according to police.
Investigators said Mim is a named suspect in the murder case involving her husband, Naim Talukdar, whose death occurred in Kunihari village under Jhalokathi Sadar Upazila.
According to the first information report (FIR), Naim was taken to Jhalokathi Sadar Hospital on November 13, 2024, after being found unconscious. He was pronounced dead by the attending physician. At the time, family members said he had fallen into a canal and become critically ill.
However, after receiving the autopsy report, the victim's uncle, Md. Sohel Hossain Talukdar, filed a murder case with Jhalokathi Sadar Police Station.
The complaint alleges that Naim was strangled to death as a result of a family dispute and an alleged extramarital relationship involving his wife and a relative by marriage. It further claims that his body was later placed in the water to make the death appear accidental.
The case names Mim Begum and Amirul, a resident of Joypurhat district, as accused, along with two to three unidentified individuals.
Police said Mim has been produced before a court, while efforts are continuing to arrest the remaining suspect.
The allegations contained in the FIR, including claims of an extramarital relationship and murder, have not been proven in court. Police are continuing their investigation, and the allegations will ultimately be determined through judicial proceedings.
