


The Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI) Brackish Water Centre organized its annual regional workshop on Saturday morning at the centre's auditorium.
The workshop, titled "Annual Research Progress Review (2025-2026) and Research Project Proposal Formulation (2026-2027)," focused on evaluating local aquaculture developments and reviewing six ongoing and two new research project proposals aimed at boosting brackish water fisheries production.
Md. Jahangir Alam, Director of the Department of Fisheries, Khulna, attended as the chief guest. The session was chaired by Dr. Azhar Ali, Chief Scientific Officer and head of the centre. Dr. Md. Mostafizur Rahman, head of the Fisheries and Marine Resources Technology Discipline at Khulna University, attended as the guest of honor.
Special guests included Dr. Akheri Naima, Chief Scientific Officer and head of the Bagerhat Shrimp Research Center, and Professor Dr. Md. Golam Sarwar of Khulna University.
During the workshop, Dr. Azhar Ali alongside BFRI senior scientific officers and scientific officers—including Dr. Md. Golam Sazed Riar, Shafiqul Alam Rubel, Md. Golam Mostafa, Md. Masudur Rahman, Saima Sultana Sonia, Rajib Hossain, and Falguni Biswas—presented their respective research progress and future project plans.
The event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders to exchange views, including academics from Khulna University and Khulna Agricultural University, senior officials from the Khulna Department of Fisheries, research scientists, local shrimp farmers, and fish fry traders.
