Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local villagers foiled an attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to forcefully push 20 people—including women and children—into Bangladesh through the Shibganj border early Saturday.
The standoff triggered brief tension between the two border forces at the Chauka border area under Binodpur union. The BSF personnel eventually withdrew after being chased by an angry crowd of local residents.
According to local and BGB sources, the BSF attempted the push-in around the 177/2S boundary pillar area, involving five men, 11 women, and four children. Alerted to the situation, a BGB patrol team rushed to the spot and blocked their entry.
"We stopped the push-in immediately upon receiving the information," said Havildar Ashraf Ali of the Chauka Border Outpost (BOP). "Local residents quickly joined us. Around 9:00 AM, a group of 20 to 25 BSF personnel tried to push them through a second time, causing tensions to flare. When locals charged at them, the BSF members retreated."
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury, Commander of the 53 BGB Battalion, confirmed the incident. "The BGB patrol team successfully thwarted the illegal entry attempt. The individuals are currently trapped at the zero line. We are monitoring the border closely, and further details will follow," he said.
