A festive wedding turned into mourning after a man was electrocuted while welcoming the groom in Narail Sadar upazila on Friday night.
The deceased, Nakul Mallick, 52, was a resident of Musuri village under Kolora union. He was the son of the late Satis Chandra Mallick.
Family members said the house was decorated with festive lighting for the wedding of Nakul’s niece. The incident occurred around 8:00 PM when the groom’s procession arrived from the Dhopakhola area.
Nakul was standing at the decorated welcome gate with other relatives to greet the guests with sweets. Amid the bustling crowd and lighthearted scuffle typical of wedding arrivals, he accidentally came into contact with a live electric wire used for the decorative lighting.
Relatives rushed the unresponsive man to Narail Sadar Hospital, where the duty doctor at the emergency department declared him dead.
Narail Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ajay Kumar Kundu confirmed the incident, stating that police visited the scene following the tragedy. The body was handed over to the family after completing necessary legal procedures.
