The government will deploy Ansar members to ensure security in the capital's Hatirjheel area following recent allegations of robbery, State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam announced on Saturday.
The security forces will be stationed through the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), the State Minister said during an inspection of ongoing cleanup operations in Hatirjheel on Saturday morning. He assured the public that the popular recreational spot would be restored to its pristine condition shortly.
Accompanying the State Minister, RAJUK Chairman Engineer Md. Riazul Islam stated that lighting and beautification work would also be undertaken.
"The cleanup operations in Hatirjheel must be expedited," the RAJUK Chairman said, noting that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has set a one-week deadline for the task. "We are deploying additional manpower to complete the work as quickly as possible."
The RAJUK Chairman added that permanent measures are actively being implemented to eliminate floating garbage and disconnect all illegal sewage lines draining into the lake.
