A 12-year-old boy and his 7-year-old nephew tragically drowned in a pond near Nallapara Government Primary School in Delduar Upazila, Tangail, on Friday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Abdur Rahman, 12, son of Ripon Chowdhury, and his nephew Faisal, 7, son of Nur Mohammad. Both were residents of Nallapara village in Atia Union.
According to locals and former Atia Union Chairman Sirajul Islam Mallick, the boys had been riding bicycles in the school field on Friday morning. Afterward, they went to bathe in the adjacent pond. Witnesses believe the younger boy, Faisal, slipped into deep water. His uncle, Abdur Rahman, attempted to rescue him, but both eventually drowned.
Passersby later noticed one of the boys floating in the water. Locals quickly recovered both children and rushed them to the Delduar Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared them dead upon arrival.
Delduar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sakhawat Hossain confirmed the incident. He stated that the bodies were brought to the police station and will be handed over to their families upon the completion of legal procedures.
