Police have arrested a Thai national over the fatal stabbing of a fellow crew member during an altercation aboard a foreign commercial ship anchored in the Bay of Bengal, off the coast of Chattogram's Anwara upazila.

The accused, 35-year-old Turakorn Burusik, was apprehended on Wednesday morning. Both he and the victim were crew members aboard the foreign vessel MV KPP-01 (IMO 9021203).

According to police sources, a fight broke out on the anchored ship around 8:30 pm on Tuesday. During the clash, Burusik allegedly stabbed 30-year-old Rafifong Kalahan, leaving him critically injured.

Kalahan was immediately rescued and rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

Anwara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Junayet Chowdhury confirmed the incident. He explained that Patenga Police Station initially detained the suspect before handing him over to Anwara Police on Wednesday morning to follow proper jurisdictional protocols.

Following the completion of preliminary legal procedures, a local court ordered the accused to be sent to jail pending further investigation.
