State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock and Tangail-5 MP Sultan Salahuddin Tuku said a hospital will be established to improve healthcare services for people living in char areas along the Jamuna River in western Tangail.
He made the announcement while speaking as the chief guest at a cheque distribution programme held at the Tangail Zila Parishad auditorium on Tuesday afternoon.
Tuku said the government is working to fulfill promises made to the people through gradual implementation of development projects. He added that discussions have already been held with the Health Minister regarding the proposed hospital project for char residents.
“There are several unions along the Jamuna River in western Tangail where people still face difficulties in accessing medical treatment,” he said.
The state minister also said he wants Tangail to become a leading district in development within the next five years.
Highlighting the social impact of drug abuse, Tuku said narcotics are destroying the younger generation. He urged teachers, mosque imams, madrasa authorities and educational institution officials to raise awareness among youths through counseling and community discussions.
The programme was chaired by Tangail District Council Administrator Advocate SM Obaidul Haque Nasir. Among others present were District Council Executive Officer Shamsunnahar Swapna, former member secretary of District BNP Mahmudul Haque Sanu, and Sadar Upazila BNP President Azgar Ali.
During the event, cheques worth around Tk 40 lakh were distributed for various development projects in Sadar Upazila.
