Details have emerged regarding the brutal murder of BNP activist Sohel Rana (42), with police revealing the killing was executed for a contract of 50,000 Taka. The Additional Superintendent of Police for Bheramara Circle, Md. Delwar Hossain, confirmed the details during a press briefing at the Bheramara Police Station on Monday night.
On November 25, 2025, the body of Sohel Rana—an expatriate residing in Jordan—was discovered in a paddy field in Ramchandrapur Beel. The victim had been subjected to extreme torture; his body was mutilated and his face burned beyond recognition to conceal his identity.
Bheramara Police have arrested five suspects: Sujan Khalifa (alias Sujan Kana), Limon, Mohin Uddin, Jahabul Islam Zabul, and Md. Shaon. Three of the accused—Mohin, Zabul, and Shaon—have provided confessional statements under Section 164 in court.
Investigation reveals that Sujan Kana, a close associate of the victim, allegedly masterminded the plot. He convened a meeting at his residence where he paid an advance of 25,000 Taka to the hitmen, promising the remainder upon completion of the task.
According to the confessions, the victim was lured from Satbaria Bazar to a secluded road where he was ambushed with iron rods and knives. After the murder, the killers burned the victim's face with petrol and photographed the body as "proof" to collect the final payment.
While the investigation is nearing completion, police noted that primary suspect Sujan Kana withdrew his initial intent to provide a statement. Authorities are currently pursuing several other suspects, including individuals named Tushar and Khokon, who remain at large.
