


A newly built road connecting Kheyaghat in Soladana Union to the local বাজার (market) has been inaugurated in Paikgachha Upazila, Khulna, improving communication in this coastal area.
On Monday (April 6), Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wasiuzzaman Chowdhury officially opened the Soladana Kheyaghat–Bazar Road by unveiling a plaque and cutting a ribbon.
The 230-meter-long and 3.66-meter-wide road was developed under the Disaster Risk Mitigation Project for the 2025–2026 fiscal year. The total cost of construction and repair works was Tk 24,59,736.
The project received financial support from the Government of Japan and technical assistance from the World Food Programme (WFP). It was supervised by the Department of Disaster Management under the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief and the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED). NGO Sushilon supported field-level implementation.
Speaking at the event, UNO Wasiuzzaman Chowdhury said improved roads are vital for disaster preparedness in coastal areas. The new road will help residents travel more easily, transport goods, and reach shelters quickly during emergencies.
Several officials attended the inauguration, including Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Fazle Rabbi, Senior Fisheries Officer Saikat Mallik, Livestock Officer Dr. Partha Pratim Roy, Agriculture Officer Md. Ekramul Hossain, and Secondary Education Officer Shahjahan Ali Sheikh, among others. Local representatives and residents were also present.
Later, a briefing session was held at the Paikgachha Officers Club. The meeting focused on the “Cyclone Forecast-Based Early Response and Social Protection Program in the South-Western Region of Bangladesh,” with participation from government officials, journalists, and NGO representatives.
