Approximately 20,000 residents of Pithapsi and Ghuradumbur villages in Purba Pagla Union are set to find relief as emergency repairs begin on their only access road. The road had recently become impassable due to heavy rains and neglect.
Following widespread reports of public suffering on social media, Shantiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Shahjahan visited the site on Sunday afternoon. Accompanied by Upazila Engineer Md. Sajedul Alam and local representatives, the UNO assessed the damage, which included several deep potholes that halted all vehicular movement.
Local residents expressed their gratitude for the prompt intervention. "We couldn't use this road for days," said one villager. "The UNO took action even before we formally approached him. We expect to see vehicles running again within two or three days."
Upazila Engineer Sajedul Alam explained that the road's permanent renovation had been stalled because the previous contractor abandoned the project following the political transition on August 5. "We have issued multiple notices to the contractor with no response, so we are moving toward a fresh tender process," Alam stated. "In the meantime, we are conducting emergency repairs to ensure the road is usable within 48 hours."
UNO Mohammad Shahjahan reaffirmed his commitment to public service, noting that ensuring the mobility of the 20,000 affected residents was a priority.
