A human chain and memorandum program was held in Faridpur on Thursday to protest the suspension of government-approved retail fertilizer seller certificates. The program was organized by the Retail Fertilizer Sellers Association of Bangladesh in front of the Faridpur Press Club at 11:30 am.
Zakir Hossain Liton, speaking on behalf of the association, said that the suspension prevents card-holding retail fertilizer sellers from buying and selling fertilizer under previous regulations. “We, the 44,000 card-holding retail fertilizer sellers across the country, are deeply disappointed. If this livelihood-based activity is halted, what will happen to our families? The uncertainty is causing serious concern,” he added.
He further explained that as small businessmen, they follow government rules and rely on their modest income to cover shop rent, employee salaries, and household expenses. “With the current market prices, our families are struggling to survive. We urge the government to halt the policy restructuring and allow us to continue our businesses,” Liton said.
After forming the human chain, the participants submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Deputy Commissioner. Liaquat Ali Mollah, Ashraf Joaddar, Aftab Hossain Babul, Raju Sikder, and others were present.
