A human chain and mass signature campaign was held in Lohagara, Narail on Sunday, protesting against local land grabbers, fraudsters, and corrupt individuals.
Following the protest, victims and local residents submitted a memorandum to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) demanding immediate action.
The demonstration took place at 10:00 AM in front of the Lohagara Upazila Parishad main gate on the Kalna-Narail National Highway. People from various professions and backgrounds joined the program to voice their grievances.
Speakers at the rally alleged that an influential land fraud syndicate has been active in Lohagara for a long time. They claimed the group uses forged documents and fake court decrees to illegally occupy properties. The protestors specifically accused Shahjahan Sheikh (alias Kuti), Shahidul Islam, and Zahid Hossain from the Lakshmipasha area of leading these fraudulent activities, adding that local residents are helpless against their harassment.
Among others, former Mayor of Lohagara Municipality Advocate Newaz Ahmed Thakur Nazrul, BNP leader Anichur Rahman Kamal, Syed Shah Alam, Md. Musa Molya, and victims Sushanta Biswas and SM Iman Ali spoke at the event.
When contacted, the accused individuals denied all allegations brought against them.
Lohagara UNO Shammi Kaiser confirmed receiving the memorandum. "The matter will be thoroughly investigated, and necessary legal actions will be taken," she said.
