A fire broke out at a shoe factory in the Madarbari area of Chattogram city on Friday afternoon, leaving at least eight workers injured.
The blaze began around 3:00 PM and spread rapidly due to the presence of highly flammable materials, including glue, rubber, and plastic. Eight units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence responded to the scene, successfully bringing the flames under control after nearly two hours of effort.
Firefighters rescued three workers who were trapped on the upper floors of the six-story building. Eight workers injured and three are in critical condition with severe burns. The critically injured were rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), while others received primary care locally.
Jasim Uddin, Deputy Director of Agrabad Fire Service, stated that dense surroundings and narrow access routes made the operation challenging.
While the fire has been contained, the exact cause and the total extent of financial damage are yet to be determined. A search operation is ongoing to ensure no one remains trapped inside the structure.
