Election Commissioner Brig Gen Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah (retd) on Thursday said the spontaneous and large turnout in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election proved that Bangladesh remains strong and united as a nation.

He made the remarks while announcing the official election results at 11:00am at the Election Building in Agargaon.

Thanking voters and all those involved in the process, Sanaullah said the Election Commission had only one pledge — to conduct a neutral and credible election.

“We tried our best to ensure a fair election. We are deeply grateful to the people for their spontaneous participation in this large exercise. This proves that we are ultimately victorious as a nation,” he said.

He added that the Election Commission viewed the election not just as a duty, but as a sacred trust. Referring to earlier concerns and doubts, he said those fears were removed by the strong voter turnout across the country.

Expressing hope for the future, Sanaullah said he wished Bangladesh’s democratic journey would remain on the right path and that this election would set an example for even better elections ahead.

Senior Secretary of the EC Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed and other Election Commission officials were present at the briefing.
