In a rare show of political harmony, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Lakshmipur-2, Abul Khair Bhuiyan, visited the home of his closest rival, Jamaat-e-Islami leader Master Ruhul Amin Bhuiyan, on Friday night.
Bhuiyan, representing the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), arrived at the "Nadi Bangla" residence of the Jamaat leader at approximately 8:30 PM. He was seen carrying a bouquet of flowers and sweets—a gesture widely viewed as a "milestone" for local politics following a high-stakes election.
The two veteran politicians spent over an hour discussing the future development of the Raipur constituency. Reports indicate that the newly elected MP sought advice and "directional suggestions" from Ruhul Amin Bhuiyan, underscoring a commitment to bipartisan cooperation. Accompanying the MP-elect were several local leaders, including former Sadar West BNP Joint Convener Fakhrul Islam Swapan and senior representatives from the Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal.
Abul Khair Bhuiyan, a veteran politician and long-time advisor to BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, secured his fourth term in parliament in the 13th National Election held on February 12, 2026. Abul Khair Bhuiyan (BNP): 145,913 votes and SUM Ruhul Amin Bhuiyan (Jamaat): 134,042 votes
The visit is seen as a strategic move to ease post-election tensions in Lakshmipur, where both parties maintain a significant support base.
