Colonel Mohammad Faisal Hasan Khan, the Dinajpur Sector Commander of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), emphasized on Monday that force alone is insufficient to eliminate border crimes.
Speaking at a humanitarian event in Phulbari Upazila, he asserted that the active cooperation of border-dwelling citizens and the coordination of social forces are essential for maintaining a secure and crime-free frontier.
The commander made these remarks during a program organized by the 29th BGB Battalion at the Mirpur High School ground. The initiative focused on providing social welfare to remote communities, highlighting BGB's dual role as both a security force and a humanitarian actor.
Under the supervision of Lieutenant Colonel AM Jaber Bin Jabbar, the 29th BGB Battalion carried out significant relief work and Blankets were distributed to 300 vulnerable individuals struggling with the current cold wave.
A free medical camp provided consultations and essential medicines to approximately 600 men, women, and children. Colonel Khan reiterated that while BGB remains vigilant against smuggling, drug trade, and human or arms trafficking, the "humanitarian role" helps build the trust necessary for effective intelligence and security.
By supporting the welfare of those in remote areas, the BGB aims to foster a partnership where residents act as the first line of defense against cross-border illegalities.
The event was attended by local officials, including Kazihal Union Parishad Acting Chairman Farhad Hossain Kanchan, alongside BGB officers and journalists.
