International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction Concludes in Naogaon

To mark the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, a discussion meeting was held in Naogaon, organized by the District Relief and Disaster Management Office. The event aimed to promote coordinated efforts in disaster preparedness and response.

The program commenced at 9:30 AM on Monday at the Naogaon Sadar Upazila Parishad ground. Deputy Commissioner of Naogaon, Mohammad Abdul Awal, was present as the chief guest.

In his address, the Deputy Commissioner stated, “Man-made disasters can be somewhat controlled, but natural disasters can only be dealt with through coordinated efforts. Fire Service is not limited to extinguishing fires — they play a vital role in disaster response and rescue operations of all kinds.”

He further emphasized the need for fire service initiatives in educational institutions and commercial markets to improve safety awareness. “Separate training programs and simulation drills can be organized involving various stakeholders,” he added.

The discussion meeting was presided over by Naogaon Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Ibnul Abedin. Among others present were Executive Magistrate Abhishek Kanti Barman, District Disaster Management Officer Md. Ashikul Islam, Fire Service and Civil Defense Deputy Assistant Director Md. Zakir Hossain, and Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md. Mahbubur Rahman.

The event began with a well-organized rally followed by a live field demonstration on disaster preparedness. Participants included members of the Fire Service and Civil Defense, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Bangladesh Scouts, and students from various educational institutions.
