Police have arrested two members of an international drug smuggling syndicate and recovered 3,870 Tapentadol tablets alongside Tk.4,99,600 in cash during a raid in Porsha upazila of Naogaon on Saturday night.
The arrestees were identified as Shakil (20) and Baby Khatun (33) both residents of Kalaibari village. An accomplice escaped during the operation.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Porsha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ziaur Rahman conducted the raid around 10:30 pm under the direction of District Superintendent of Police (SP) Tarikul Islam. During a search of suspect Tahurul’s residence, officers discovered the Tapentadol tablets hidden in an earthen pit beneath a bed. Police also seized cash earned from drug sales and seven mobile phones.
According to police, the total market value of the seized tablets is estimated at Tk.11.61 lakh.
SP Tarikul Islam stated that preliminary interrogations revealed the syndicate directly smuggles narcotics across the border from India to distribute throughout Naogaon district.
A case has been filed against the two detainees and the fleeing suspect under the Narcotics Control Act. The arrestees were sent to jail on Sunday as anti-drug operations continue across the region.
