A total of 12 meritorious second-year undergraduate students from the Gazipur Agricultural University (GAKU), specializing in environment and natural sciences, have been awarded a prestigious scholarship by the internationally renowned Nagao Natural Environment Foundation (NEF) of Japan.

The 12 recipients include nine female students and three male students, selected for their strong academic performance and dedication to environmental conservation. Each student will receive an annual financial benefit of 38,000 taka for three years.

The scholarship checks were officially handed over on Tuesday (December 2) at a ceremony in the university's Academic Council Room. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. GKM Mostafizur Rahman presented the checks and expressed great pride in the students' consistent international recognition, calling the scholarship a boost to their commitment to biodiversity and sustainable agriculture.

This is the second batch of GAKU students to receive the award this year, following 20 students who received the same scholarship in October, highlighting the university's growing international reputation.

Dr. Mostafizur Rahman praised NEF's ongoing support to Bangladesh in environmental conservation, viewing it as a "unique example of the friendship and global environmental thinking of the two countries."

Nafisa Jannat Ami, a recipient from the Faculty of Forestry and Environment, shared her gratitude, expressing aspirations for higher education in Japan to contribute positively to the world.

The event was presided over by NEF Bangladesh Committee Coordinator and GAKU International Affairs Director, Professor Dr. Md. Amjad Hossain. NEF is a humanitarian NGO based in Japan dedicated to supporting environmental protection and sustainable development in developing countries.
