The indefinite strike of assistant teachers of government primary schools in Pabna continues, demanding the implementation of their three-point demands. The annual exams started on Monday (December 1). While the assistant teachers are on strike, the head teachers are taking the exams.
The assistant teachers started their indefinite strike last Thursday (November 27). They said that they have continued their strike because their demands were not implemented. Although they admitted that the exams of the tender students are being disrupted, they said that they are helpless.
Assistant teachers Farzana Yasmin and Said ul Islam of Shibrampur Model Government Primary School in Pabna Municipality Sadar said that the salary scale of assistant teachers should be fixed at 10th grade, the end of complications regarding obtaining higher grades on completion of 10 and 16 years, and 100% departmental promotion from assistant teachers to head teachers. Our movement is based on these three-point demands. Our strike is going on under the orders of the central leaders. The movement will continue until the demands are met.
Bangladesh Primary Assistant Teachers' Society Pabna joint convener Mokarram Hossain and Pabna Sadar Upazila Education Committee teacher representative Anisur Rahman Hira said, 'We are also having trouble, protesting during the annual examination of young children. But we are helpless. We have been assured of fulfilling our demands, but now it is not being implemented. Our backs are against the wall. Therefore, we appeal to the government to quickly implement our demands and give us the opportunity to take the examination.'
Meanwhile, the guardians are angry at the teachers' performance of such a program before the annual examination. In a conversation on the premises of Shibrampur Moyal Government Primary School, two guardians, Farzana Akhter and Sharmin Akhter Toma, said, 'Even though the annual examination has started, the assistant teachers' movement is not desirable at such a time. Our children are suffering. If they cannot give good results in the examination, how can they get promoted to the next class with good results? They demanded that the complications be resolved.
Rozina Khatun, head teacher of Sadhupara Government Primary School, said, "Although the assistant teachers are on strike, the authorities have ordered that the exams be conducted in an alternative manner. Therefore, with my own efforts, I am conducting the annual exams of the children in my own way. Although I am facing problems and difficulties while conducting the exams alone."
