The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has issued a show cause notice to its director, M Nazmul Islam, following "objectionable comments" he made against the country’s cricketers. Despite the board’s move, players are continuing their nationwide boycott of all cricketing activities.
The notice was served on Thursday morning, just hours before the scheduled start of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) matches. The Cricketers' Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) has maintained that the strike will not end until Nazmul Islam resigns from the board.
Matches Halted as Crisis Deepens The impact of the boycott was felt early Thursday as four first-division matches in the Dhaka Cricket League failed to start. In the BPL, players from Chattogram Royals and Noakhali Express also refused to take the field for the day's opening fixture. In an official statement, the BCB confirmed the disciplinary action: "A show cause letter has been issued, and the individual has been instructed to respond in writing within 48 hours. The matter will be handled through due process, and appropriate action will follow."
Negotiations Stalled Internal sources reveal that BCB directors contacted CWAB President Mohammad Mithun late Wednesday night, offering a compromise. The board proposed removing Nazmul from his influential role as Chairman of the Finance Committee. However, Mithun rejected the offer, stating that the cricketers' demand remains a total resignation from the board.
The CWAB is expected to hold a press conference later today to formally present their list of demands to the BCB.
