U.S. fast bowler Ali Khan has confirmed that his visa application for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India has been denied, raising doubts about his availability less than a month before the tournament begins. Khan, who was born in Pakistan and represents the United States, shared the news Monday in an Instagram story, posting a photo with the caption, “India visa denied but KFC for the win.”
The decision is a setback for the U.S. team as it finalizes preparations for the tournament. Group A matches for the United States are largely scheduled in India, including a high-profile opener against host nation India on February 7 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. The team is also set to play matches in Chennai against the Netherlands and Namibia.
Ali Khan is a key member of the U.S. bowling attack, and his absence at this stage could force last-minute changes to the squad.
Reports suggest Khan may not be the only U.S. player affected. Other team members of Pakistani origin—including wicketkeeper-batter Shayan Jahangir and bowlers Ehsan Adil and Mohammad Mohsin—are also reportedly facing visa delays or denials.
Players with Pakistani roots often undergo additional security screening for travel to India, particularly during major international sporting events.
Neither USA Cricket nor the International Cricket Council has issued an official statement on the matter. It remains unclear whether Khan can appeal the decision or if the visa denial is final.
