The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially taken over the ownership of the Chattogram Royals just 24 hours before the 12th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) begins. The franchise owner, Triangle Services Limited, withdrew from the tournament citing a lack of sponsor interest driven by negative media reports.
Triangle Services Limited, which recently purchased the team and participated in the player auction, cited an inability to secure sponsors as the primary reason for their exit.
To prevent a repeat of last year's payment scandals—specifically the Rajshahi franchise crisis where players boycotted matches—the BCB opted for a swift takeover to ensure financial integrity and player security. The BCB has appointed a new management team to lead the Royals Team Director: Habibul Bashar, Head Coach: Mizanur Rahman Babul and Manager: Nafees Iqbal
The team had recently faced scrutiny after reports surfaced that individuals "red-flagged" in a corruption inquiry were involved with the franchise, contributing to the "media reports" that scared off potential sponsors.
Despite the chaos, the BCB confirmed that the tournament schedule remains intact. The Chattogram Royals are set to face the Noakhali Express in their opening match as planned.
