Local Government Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has accused ousted leader Sheikh Hasina of attempting to destabilize Bangladesh from abroad. Speaking at the launch of the documentary film 'Mayer Dak' at the Bangladesh Film Archive on Sunday, March 8, the Minister termed her activities "criminal offenses."
Minister Fakhrul highlighted that the families of those who disappeared during the previous regime continue to face deep uncertainty. He criticized the former Prime Minister for showing "no remorse" despite the gravity of the allegations against her, including enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings.
"While we have various government allowances, specific and effective initiatives to ensure the dignified survival of these families are still lacking," Fakhrul stated. He announced plans to formally write to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to advocate for a dedicated monthly allowance for the children and families of the disappeared, emphasizing that such support is "a rightful claim, not charity."
Also in attendance, State Minister for Information Yaser Khan Chowdhury called for more than just trials. "We must take active initiatives to bring back the victims of disappearances," he said, adding that the nation seeks a permanent end to "the politics of murder and blood."
