The government has finalized the decision to establish a medical college in Thakurgaon, announced Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting Thakurgaon General Hospital at 9:00 AM on Sunday (March 1), the Minister confirmed that both the project approval and the site location have been settled.
"The establishment of this medical college will upgrade the existing 250-bed hospital to a 500-bed facility," the Minister stated. "Our goal is to ensure the people of this region receive significantly improved healthcare services. We will remain vigilant to ensure this progress continues."
During his visit, the Minister praised the hospital’s cleanliness and discussed further development with officials. He instructed the hospital superintendent to submit a list of requirements to the ministry for immediate government action. Additionally, he announced that the District Administrator would arrange for a new lift to be installed in the hospital.
Addressing the hospital staff, Mirza Fakhrul urged them to maximize the use of limited resources for the benefit of the public. He also noted that the administrative issues of long-term hospital employees are being reviewed.
"It has been only two weeks since we took office, but we are moving quickly to address these needs," he added.
