Intra-Party Clash in Tajumuddin Leaves 8 Injured; Joint Forces Intervene

A violent confrontation between members of the Jubo Dal, Shramik Dal, and Swechchhasebak Dal erupted on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in at least eight injuries. The clash, reportedly sparked by an argument over the verbal abuse of local businessmen, was eventually quelled by the intervention of the Joint Forces.

The altercation took place in front of the Tajumuddin Upazila Health Complex. Witnesses stated that Upazila Shramik Dal President Iqbal Hossain Liton and Swechchhasebak Dal leader Abdul Gafur were allegedly insulting market traders while at a local tea stall.

When Rubel, a Jubo Dal activist, intervened and asked them to stop, a heated argument ensued. The situation escalated into a physical assault on Rubel, prompting supporters from the various wings to gather and engage in a larger clash.

At least eight people from both sides sustained injuries. The injured are Md. Iqbal Hossain Liton (President, Upazila Shramik Dal), Md. Abdul Gafur (General Secretary Candidate, Upazila Swechchhasebak Dal), Md. Rubel (Jubo Dal activist) and Ilias (Chhatra Dal leader).

The injured were rushed to the Tajumuddin Upazila Health Complex, while those with more severe injuries were transferred to the Bhola Sadar 250-bed General Hospital.

Accused leaders Abdul Gafur and Iqbal Hossain Liton denied initiating the violence, claiming they were slandering specific Jubo League rivals following a prior dispute, but were targeted by Rubel’s group for political purposes.

However, Bhola District Jubo Dal Joint Organizing Secretary Md. Gias Uddin noted that there have been "many complaints" regarding the conduct of Liton and Gafur in the past.

Peace was restored after the police and the Navy (as part of the Joint Forces) arrived at the scene. Tajumuddin Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abdus Salam confirmed that the situation is now under control. He added that while no formal written complaint has been filed by any party yet, the police are ready to take legal action once a report is received.
