In a historic first, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman made a surprise visit to the Bangladesh Army's summer training exercise in Manikganj on Tuesday morning, July 7. Spending significant time with field-level soldiers, he inspected the 8 Bir unit’s training area under the 9 Infantry Division in Singair Upazila.
During his on-foot tour of the tactical base, the Prime Minister was briefed on strategic preparations by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) and Commanding Officer (CO). He observed the troops closely, listening to operational orders and witnessing a live 'raid' drill.
Taking a hands-on approach, Rahman descended into bunkers to discuss battlefield tactics and approached camouflaged soldiers to encourage them. Breaking formal protocol, he later shared field rations and tea with the troops, who expressed deep appreciation for the head of government's unprecedented frontline engagement.
In his address, Prime Minister Rahman highlighted the nation's profound trust in the armed forces. He praised their vital role in managing national crises and maintaining law and order, urging them to uphold strict discipline and maximum operational readiness.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Defense Advisor Brig. Gen. (Retd) Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam, Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman, and Military Secretary Major General Abul Hasnat Mohammad Tariq.
