The Bandarban district administration has suspended access to all tourist destinations until Friday, July 10, following continuous heavy rainfall and the heightened risk of landslides.
The directive, issued by Deputy Commissioner Md Saniul Ferdous, aims to protect the lives and property of both tourists and local residents. The ban covers all tourist centers, waterfalls, hill trails, and waterways across the district. Travel to remote and hazardous locations is strictly prohibited during this period.
Heavy downpours have severely disrupted communication and safety across the hill district. A 33kV power line pole collapsed in the Reicha area, restricting movement on the Bandarban-Cox's Bazar-Chattogram route to only small vehicles and CNG-run autorickshaws. Furthermore, landslides have been reported on key roads connecting Bandarban to Ruma and Thanchi.
In response to the deteriorating conditions, authorities in all seven upazilas are using loudspeakers to warn residents in vulnerable areas to move to safer locations immediately. Work is currently underway by the power department to restore damaged lines
