PM Tarique Rahman Donates 10% of Salary to State Treasury

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is donating 10% of his basic monthly salary to the state treasury, Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain announced on Monday. The move revives a tradition started by the Prime Minister’s father, BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman, who also contributed a portion of his pay to support the poor and meet government needs.

Speaking at a Bangladesh Midwifery Society event in the capital, the Health Minister shared that the Prime Minister contributes Tk 11,500 each month—equivalent to 10% of his Tk 115,000 basic salary. The Prime Minister reportedly withdraws the funds and deposits them into the government account via cheque.

During a recent meeting, the Prime Minister encouraged his cabinet to consider making similar voluntary contributions for public welfare. Minister Sakhawat Husain noted that cabinet members welcomed the initiative and responded positively to the appeal
